Make Yourself Feel Better!
There is an old saying that says if you feel down then go out and buy yourself something to make yourself feel better. Many people dismiss this as just another marketing ploy used by retailers to get people into their stores but you may want to hold off on your incredulous notion and hear how this can affect real people. Sometimes it can help a person's mood to know that even in the face of impending personal doom they can still step out to a department store and buy something new to occupy their time. There is something built in to the human psyche that loves to open up boxes and find something new in them or even to just get packages in the mail. People will find the arrival of something new exciting and even exhilarating to a point. It can make you feel great to get home from a lousy day at the office and find a package waiting for you at your side door. Sometimes you know what it is and you are excited to get it and sometimes you have no idea what it could be and your curiosity can cause great excitement as well. Men do not like the sound of the word shopping. The word shopping, over the years, has become a very feminine way of expressing the desire to accumulate more goods and open more boxes and packages. If you ask any guy if they go shopping you will more often than not get a blank look and then a negative answer. In reality guys go shopping just like ladies do and while men usually buy different things than women the activity can still be accurately referred to as shopping. Women will sometimes use shopping as an excuse for many things. They express the need to just get out of the house, they need new clothing, or they have a list of things they need to get and they need to go shopping to get them. Women also use shopping as a way to feel better about a situation and to pull themselves out of a bad mood or erase the bad feelings of a negative situation. Guys also like to buy things when they are feeling a bit down or when they are trying to erase the negative feelings from a recent bad situation but when a guy goes out to buy something they do everything they can to avoid referring to it as shopping. In reality it is shopping that the guy is doing and no matter how he tries to hide it that is exactly what he is doing. So men and women, in the end, go shopping for almost the exact same reasons. When they are down they go out to buy something new to feel better and when they need something they make a list and head out to the store to go shopping. However somewhere along the way the word shopping was transformed into a feminine word that men refuse to use and men even find the sound of the word shopping causes a sigh of frustration. This probably means that getting guys to call the bag they carry with them a purse any time soon is out of the question.
