Service, Savings, Safety, and Stressless - 4S To keep in mind shopping online

Though many people have begun to gain confidence in the online shopping experience, many are fearful of providing personal information online. With new security features such as SSL certification there is less need to worry about providing your personal information. That does not mean you do not have to exercise caution, but you do not have to become phobic about your online shopping experience. Those who once feared shopping online can now shop with the confidence that their information is just as safe as it would be if they used the telephone or postal mail.

One of the most common forms of online safety features is that of SSL certification. This tells the buyer that the website they are visiting is authentic and gives them confidence that they do not have to be concerned about their personal information arriving in the wrong hands. That does not mean you should be so confident that you avoid all safety precautions because there is nothing so secure that you and throw caution to the wind. Even if the site you are using has SSL certification you still want to be careful to watch your credit card statements and to make sure you have a good firewall on your computer to prevent hackers from being able to see what you are doing when you shop.

In addition to SSL certificates there are secured sites which are designated by a lock in the lower right hand corner of your browser. This tells the buyer that the retailer or financial institution has security in place that prevents hackers from seeing your information. If you are inputting personal information you want to make sure the site is a secure site in order to protect you from identity theft or hackers. It is important to take every precaution possible in order to assure you have a safe online shopping experience.

However, not specifically a precaution but something of which you want to be aware is being able to identify the site where you are. With so much phishing going on, you want to make sure you are on the actual site when you input financial information. In most cases a secure site will have a web address that begins with HTTPS instead of HTTP - this is your indication that you are on a secure site. Most mirror sites or phishing sites do not include this indicator. Ther3e is also software you can obtain free that will scan a site and let you know if it is a phishing site rather than a true site. All of these safety features have come to make the online shopping experience safer than it was even a few years ago.
